This complete guide to make-up brushes will help you determine which ones you actually need!
It is no secret that I love make-up. I have containers overflowing with it, and am constantly racking up points at Ulta and Sephora. My three-year-old, bless her, is convinced that she can’t go anywhere without applying a thick layer of lipstick AND lipgloss. I’m praying this this is not a battle we are continuing to fight as she begins Kindergarten in a couple of years.
One thing I struggled with for years was finding the right make-up brushes. Good ones can be an expensive investment, and it’s so hard to figure out what you actually NEED! There are a bazillion different types of brush just for applying POWDER. What even, people.
Over the year, I have learned that cheap brushes are usually not the way to go. They do you a huge disservice, often having flimsy bristles that fall out (SO annoying to have a brush hair stuck to the foundation on my face), don’t blend well, irritate the skin, or don’t pick up/distribute enough product. The correct density and quality of brush hair is key, and the right brushes will last a very long time if properly cared for. And by properly cared for, I mean washed with warm water and baby shampoo and then air-dried once every month or so. So please — don’t let that scare you off.
If you’re going to take the time to apply make-up, do not do it with crappy brushes. Trust me on this. And do NOT waste your money on wacky brushes that you don’t even NEED.
To help things along, I put together a comprehensive guide to make-up brushes. This tells you what all of the brushes are used for, as well as my personal favorites! Some of these are pricey, but keep in mind that I have been using most of them for a couple of years and they are still in perfect shape! Invest in one or two here and there and you will eventually have a gorgeous set that makes your make-up look the way that it is supposed to.
For the full list, click HERE where I am sharing it as part of the eBay Influencer program! As usual, I am not trying to sell you anything and do not receive commission on sales. I AM, however, compensated as an Influencer, with complete freedom to write about anything I love and think YOU will love, too!!
If you’ve got any questions about the brushes listed, feel free to comment or shoot me an email! I am always thrilled to help in the name of cosmetics.
Have a great day, friends!
